This month the Rt. Hon. John Redwood MP visited BIVDA member Stago UK, an IVD company based in his Berkshire constituency. Under the umbrella of French company Stago, Stago UK specialises in tests for haemostasis – the process involved in blood clotting – with tests to diagnose and monitor this essential function, including the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis. Stago UK has a sales and marketing function as well as service support for its sophisticated laboratory technology. The company is proud that 90% of technical issues can be resolved without a site visit by an engineer.
Mr Redwood enjoyed a tour of the facility, including the warehousing, service area and training suite. The company’s UK General manager, Mervyn Nicholas and Sales manager, Gillian Eyres spent some time explaining the company’s contribution to UK healthcare. BIVDA Chief executive, Doris-Ann Williams also visited the company and participated in a constructive discussion with Mr Redwood about the issues facing diagnostics companies like Stago in the UK – particularly NHS procurement.
There are more than 90 diagnostics companies throughout the UK and BIVDA members welcome visits by their local MPs – BIVDA would be very pleased to facilitate a visit for any MP or Peer who would like to learn more about diagnostics and how our industry is employing people in their constituency. Note: The NHS procurement process is currently undergoing a review led by Sir Ian Carruthers, Chief Executive of the NHS in the South of England with a report expected by the end of the year.
