Welcome to BIVDA - The British In Vitro Diagnostics Association

home_difference.gif
The British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) is the national trade association for companies with major involvement and interest in the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry. BIVDA represents both manufacturers and distributors who are active in the UK. It is not just an association of UK diagnostic companies, all IVD companies, irrespective of their national origin, are eligible to become members of BIVDA. As well as providing a range of support services for its members, BIVDA pursues a strategy of raising the awareness of the clinical and cost utility of diagnostics in the provision of effective healthcare in the UK.
BIVDA Code of Conduct provides guidance for members on their interactions with 'healthcare professionals'

BIVDA have produced a brief guidance document on the regulations governing the sale of in vitro diagnostic tests in the UK. Click here for a copy of guidance. For more information on regulatory matters members can access the Regulatory Area of this website through the Members Only section or contact the BIVDA offices.

 The Benefits of Trade Associations

Trade associations have a crucial role to play in promoting best practice, helping companies become more competitive and formulating effective public policy and delivery. They have tremendous potential to act as a co-ordinated voice of business when talking to Government, and great value in terms of quickly disseminating messages about Government policy to their members. Productive engagement between associations and
Government is very important for the policy making process…

SBRI Competition - The Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) and the Technology Strategy Board are launching a SBRI competition to fund development work on an oral fluid screening device to aid the detection of drug drivers by the police.
Evidence suggests that drug driving is an increasing problem on UK roads. Current enforcement methods rely upon the officers' observation and assessment of the drivers' impairment. Use of an oral fluid screening device would significantly assist officers and act as a strong deterrent to potential drug drivers. The aim of this competition is to identify drug detection technologies capable of detecting very low concentrations (ng/ml) of drugs and their active metabolites in oral fluid that can meet the challenging sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility requirements within a polydrug detection device at the police station.
