ABX Diagnostics

ABX Diagnostics launches the PENTRA DX 120 for routine and research needs.

The first haematology analyser specifically adapted for preventative diagnostic and haematology screening has been launched by ABX Diagnostics. Measuring an unsurpassed 45 parameters per analysis, the PENTRA DX 120 not only identifies and enumerates cell lines for routine purposes, but can also be used directly for clinical research needs.

Due to significant R&D investment by ABX, no other analyser has such broad capabilities in the study of the different stages of blood cell maturation. As a result of its innovative Double DIFF Matrix (DX), which extends the WBC cytochemical differential matrix, the PENTRA DX 120 can directly identify immature leucocytes. By offering differentiation of three cell lines – myeloid, monocytic and lymphoid – in routine use - the new DX technology provides physicians for the first time with a powerful tool for the detailed diagnosis of haematology pathologies. In addition, it can significantly reduce manual differentials in the laboratory environment.

The PENTRA DX 120 also enables direct enumeration of nucleated RBCs with no need for time-consuming manual staining, another key diagnostic parameter. The new analyser can also incorporate the second generation slide staining module (SPS Evolution) that will automatically process 120 slides per hour. This reduces diagnostic delivery time by combining automatic sampling with optimised smear parameters for consistently high quality blood films for automatic, or manual staining, as required.

The Expert Validation Station integrated with the PENTRA DX 120 has been specially developed to offer total information management and expandable communication possibilities. The haematology process pathway identifies in real time samples that require manual inspection and through ‘Intelligent Reflex Testing’ allows automatic rerun of abnormal samples. In combination with both SPS Evolution and the Expert Validation System, the Pentra DX 120 offers a totally consolidated approach to haematology workflow.

“At ABX we are developing increasingly sophisticated technology which gives rise to genuinely significant new products, such as the PENTRA DX 120, which can deliver rapid, reliable and comprehensive haematology results,” said Cleve Wright, UK Manager of ABX Diagnostics. “Since this new analyser also uses ABX’s patented DHSS technology it provides significantly improved detection and quantification in pathological samples.”
