New Deputy Director (April 2005)

23rd March 2005

From the 5th April 2005 Colin Andrews will be joining BIVDA as Deputy Director (part-time). This will give hugely increased capacity to BIVDA to manage the variety of functions which the Association has increasingly been involved with. Colin is already well known and respected within the healthcare industry sector and brings complimentary skills to the established secretariat at BIVDA.

Colin is joining BIVDA from his latest role as deputy director of the trade association GAMBICA, which represents the instrumentation, control, automation and laboratory technology industry in the UK where he was particularly responsible for the laboratory technology sector of the Association, and for its international activities, (an area where there has been particular co-operation with BIVDA).

This co-operation with BIVDA has extended during the past three years to also cover other areas of mutual interest such as purchasing and procurement issues. It is hoped by BIVDA that the two Associations will continue to work closely together to the mutual benefit of their member companies.

Colin has a degree in Biochemistry and worked in the laboratory supply business for a number of years with a company producing equipment for microbiology and the food industry, and supplying general laboratory equipment in the UK and overseas.

Colin originally joined GAMBICA to look after its laboratory activity, and was involved when the Diagnostics Register from ABPI was looking for a new home.He left GAMBICA to take over the running of British Laboratory Ware Association (BLWA) only to re-join when the decision was made to amalgamate GAMBICA’s Laboratory Equipment Group with BLWA, and provide a single focus for the UK general laboratory supply sector.

Colin lives in South London, with his wife, Julia and has a particular interest in stained glass, making traditional leaded lights to commissions with his most recent project being for the NHS!
