BIVDA Comment 2nd August 2006

The Dept. of Health published the report 'Reforming Pathology Around The Patient' on 2nd August 2006.BIVDA have issued the following statement by Doris-Ann Williams, Director General who said: “BIVDA is pleased to see its recommendations to the Review team have been included. Up to 70% of all patient diagnoses depend on pathology and for this reason we welcome this commitment to improve the quality and provision of service. Improved service will ensure that patient care is more focused and that patient proximity is taken into consideration where testing is necessary. Like much of the NHS, the pathology service has suffered from years of neglect." “Pilot schemes are being developed across the country to test these recommendations and we look forward to working with the Department of Health to deliver these pilots and assist with the modernisation of the pathology service.”
