CARTER REVIEW of NHS PATHOLOGY SERVICES – following the publication of Lord Carter’s second phase report in December, BIVDA have reformatted the 20 recommendations along with the DH responses into a PowerPoint presentation.
We have NOT added any BIVDA comments, but you may find this format helpful in your own review of the report’s findings. See Members Only Section. BIVDA has published a press release in response and we felt the response from Health Minister, the Rt.Hon. Dawn Primarolo summed up the views of industry regarding diagnostics perfectly, that "Pathology services lie at the heart of healthcare and the modern NHS. The vast majority of patients will have pathology tests carried out for diagnosis and many will also have pathology tests on a regular basis to monitor their treatment and care. A key issue for the future is the role pathology can play to support personalised care and enable patients to self-manage effectively." BIVDA would hope to see any savings generated re-invested in delivering pathology services, especially in increasing access to new technology and new routes of service delivery.
