"I am delighted to have this opportunity to announce that UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and BIVDA will be working together to represent the interests of British diagnostics firms at the upcoming AACC meeting in Chicago (19th-23rd July 2009).
As many of you know, UKTI is the government agency that assists UK companies to capitalise on opportunities overseas. To this end, members of the UKTI Life Sciences Team at the British Consulate-General in Chicago will be present at the joint UKTI-BIVDA stand at the AACC meeting. Our aim will be to showcase British excellence in the diagnostics’ sector. We will also host a networking reception at the official residence of Her Majesty’s Consul-General in Chicago. This will allow UK and US companies to explore areas of co-operation, while enjoying breathtaking views of the “windy city.”
Her Majesty’s Government is committed to supporting our diagnostics firms, which are part of a global industry worth £19 billion. The importance of this sector, and consequently related business opportunities, are likely to grow exponentially as nations begin to reassess their healthcare strategies to include a greater focus on screening for diseases. This is particularly pertinent to the United States, where the general public and the new government are debating how to reform healthcare so it is less costly, more effective, and available to a greater proportion of the population. G.S. Burrill, founder of Burrill & Company, has predicted that diagnostic tools will become widely available in the US in the coming years, at places such as airports, local pharmacies and large supermarkets (as is the case with the influenza vaccine at the moment).
UKTI stands ready to help British enterprises seize the opportunities created by these developments. We offer a wide range of services to UK companies, including subsidised in-market research and the organisation of bespoke networking receptions abroad. Furthermore, we can help to bring investment to the UK by disseminating details of your company’s cutting-edge innovations to interested parties throughout the world. If you would like to discuss your company’s attendance at the AACC reception, or the other ways in which we can help your company grow, then please contact me. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals."
