BIVDA response to the 2012 Budget

BIVDA welcomes the inclusion of the Life Sciences sector as one of Britain’s ‘successful industries’ and welcomes re-commitment to funding the sector.

BIVDA fully supports the Chancellor’s announcements in the Budget, regarding the Life Sciences sector. Chief Executive Doris-Ann Williams MBE said:

"I am happy to see that the Chancellor wants to enable the commercialisation of academic research by investing £100 million in university facilities. Making sure that new and innovative technologies are able to be developed as products and reach the commercial market is one of the most important issues in the Life Sciences sector today. Above the line Research and Development tax credits will have an important role in this too.

With a high percentage of the IVD industry considered an SME, I also welcome the Chancellor’s moves to streamline the tax system for small businesses."
