SGS achieves a full ivdd notified body scope

(GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, 21 MARCH, 2011) – SGS is pleased to announce that it has extended its Notified Body scope under the European Directive 98/79/EC on in vitro diagnostic (IVD) medical devices to include high risk LIST A products, giving a full designation scope. SGS initially gained designation as IVD medical device Directive (IVDD) Notified Body 0120 in 2010, with a scope that included all LIST B and Self-Test IVD devices. This extension to the designated scope means that SGS Notified Body can additionally provide certification services for all LIST A devices. SGS now has a global comprehensive scope for all manufacturers of IVD devices.

Russells Hall Hospital in the West Midlands, part of the Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS trust, has recently implemented Real Time Quality Control (RTQC), a web based information management tool from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics.  It is helping to improve the effectiveness of the Trust’s Point of Care (POC) quality control (QC) programme by gathering live data from six RAPIDLab® Blood Gas analysers sited across the hospital environment.

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics has introduced its fully automated Vitamin D Total assay for use on ADVIA Centaur® Immunoassay Systems.  The assay is traceable to Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) considered the gold standard in vitamin D testing.  It also measures the total 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] level (~100% D2 and D3) to ensure patients are correctly evaluated for deficiency, sufficiency or toxicity.
