The Secretariat carry out the work of the Association as determined by the Executive Committee.
Doris-Ann Williams MBE
Doris-Ann Williams has been Chief Executive of BIVDA since October 2001. She has more than 30 years’ experience working in the IVD sector and has had a variety of experience; initially in R&D and subsequently in commercial roles including international responsibilities.
Doris-Ann represents the IVD industry to a range of stakeholders, and sits on the boards and steering groups of a variety of initiatives. These include the Ministerial Medical Technology Strategy Group, with Innovate UK, the UK Pharmacogenetics and Stratified Medicine Network, and the Parliamentary and Science Committee as Vice-President.
Doris-Ann works closely with EDMA and other global IVD industry associations. She was awarded an MBE in January 2011 and was recognised as a Friend of the Royal College of Pathologists in November 2012.
Rachel joined BIVDA in September 2011; she has a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science but has spent most of her career running small businesses (from seafood to ladies shoes) in one capacity or another. Her last role was as Office Manager for a housing research consultancy where she honed her administrative skills over 7 years.
Rachel comes to BIVDA with extensive experience and knowledge of SMEs across the commercial, retail and consultancy sectors. She is innovative and supports Doris-Ann with broad technical knowledge and an understanding of commercial decision-making, and has developed her original role of Office Manager to the senior Operations Manager where member relations and association operations will be her focus.
External Affairs Manager
Emma joined BIVDA in October 2015. She has a BA and MSc in politics and started her career in the Houses of Parliament working for the Member of Parliament for Bracknell, Dr Phillip Lee. Following her stint in Parliament, Emma has worked in a number of public affairs roles at Dods Parliamentary Monitoring, the National Federation of Retail Newsagents and the Food and Drink Federation.
Emma comes to BIVDA with broad experience of public affairs, media and stakeholder engagement and will be supporting Doris-Ann in the representation of BIVDA to external audiences.
External Affairs Assistant
Elliott joined BIVDA as the External Affairs Assistant in June 2015. He has a Master's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry and has experienced first-hand the primary healthcare environment having worked in a GP surgery. Elliott comes to us with a keen interest in the life science and healthcare industries, and is particularly excited by the ever-growing field of personalised medicine. His focus will be to support Doris-Ann and Emma across public affairs, policy and communications.

Jo Hunter - on maternity leave
Jo joined BIVDA in December 2013 as an Administrator / Receptionist and she comes to us with a very strong administration background having worked in diverse industries across London. Jo has a happy can do attitude and brightens up our reception.
