In Brief This Week: VolitionRx, Bio-Techne, Biocept, Meridian Bioscience, and More

NEW YORK (360Dx) – VolitionRx reported a second quarter net loss of $3.5 million, or $.13 per share, compared to a net loss of $2.9 million, or $.13 per share, a year ago. The company said it had $16.5 million in cash and cash equivalents on June 30. During the quarter, it initiated regulatory approval for its tests in Taiwan and Singapore, and noted that if it gets approval in Singapore, it would provide VolitionRx access to nine other South Asian markets. The company also established a wholly owned US subsidiary, Volition America, based in Austin, Texas.

Patients Suspected of Sepsis No Longer Need to Wait 5 Days to Rule out Bloodstream Infection with Momentum Bioscience's ETGA® Technology

A study showing how rapid negative exclusion of blood cultures by a molecular method, Cognitor® Minus, can aid antimicrobial stewardship. 

UK study in general blood culture of 246 patients with suspected sepsis. In 74% of cases where Cognitor® Minus gave a negative result there was a positive antimicrobial stewardship outcome:

- Either cessation of antibiotics
- Switching from intravenous to oral forms
- Discharge or leaving patients at home
- In some cases antibiotics were not started

Biofortuna closes £1.6M funding round

Biofortuna Ltd, a UK-based diagnostics company offering molecular diagnostic products and contract manufacturing services, has raised £1.6M in its latest funding round. The new funding –supported by current investor Foresight VCTs and members of the senior management team – will allow the company to take its ReadyPlex™ rapid blood group genotyping assays into clinical trials and commercialisation, as well as invest in additional resources in its contract manufacturing infrastructure.

Safe, Easy UN3373 Sample Transport

The latest addition to the SpeciSafe® range, from Alpha Laboratories,  is a  pack to enclose two paediatric blood or serum tubes. This extends the existing 1, 3, 6 and 10 serum vial packs. The dual serum tube pack also includes two stands to secure tubes for opening on the bench. In addition this versatile design can accommodate a single 1.2ml Monovette tube.
